On October 29, 2022, IWCA Vietnam collaborated with its network partners to organize the 9th webinar on the topic of “Techniques of coffee harvesting”.
The webinar was successfully held and provided a wealth of practical knowledge which can be applied in this year’s crop.
During the event, Dr. Nguyen Van Thuong – Former Deputy Director of the WASI Institute and Mr. Mai Xuan Thong – Technical Advisor of GCP Vietnam provided useful information on coffee harvesting techniques.
The two experts also emphasized the benefits of picking ripe coffee berries as well as the drawbacks of harvesting unripe coffee berries, thereby convincing coffee farmers and producers to adopt selective harvesting which helps increase the poportion of ripe coffee berries and the quality of coffee.
To provide a more comprehensive perspective, Ms. Luong Ngoc Tram – the founder of Pun Coffee also shared the difficulties often encountered in collecting ripe coffee berries in the farm.
The experts promptly exchanged, discussed these challenges and proposed appropriate solutions.
In addition, during the webinar, Mr. Tran Minh Tri – Country Coordinator of Vision Zero Fund project, ILO shared guidance on occupational safety and health in coffee harvesting.
