The Passing the Torch program-Pilot Initiative to Establish Community Reading Points for Women and Children in Mai Son District, Sơn La Province

The “Passing the Torch” program – “Pilot Initiative to Establish Community Reading Points for Women and Children in Mai Son District, Son La Province” was successfully held on August 15-16. This activity was coordinated by the International Women’s Coffee Alliance Vietnam in collaboration with Vietnam Reading Point, with the support of the the People’s Committee of Mai Son District, the Women’s Union of Mai Son District, and the Women’s Union of Chieng Ban Commune.

The program aims to enhance awareness about the significance of books, foster reading habits, and promote and cultivate a reading culture in the local community. At the same time, the program also creates a bond between the local women’s community, between mothers and children, and between school-aged children.

The program was organized at the cultural centers of three villages: Thay Lom 6/1 village, Ot village and Phieng Quai Tong Chinh village. Here, activities such as sharing inspirational stories and engaging with books were organised, attracting the participation of about 400 individuals, especially women and children.

IWCA Vietnam and Vietnam Reading Point will continue to collaborate in upcoming “Keeping the Flame Alive” activities, with the objective of continuing the development of the reading culture within the community. This initiative seeks to further propagate and nurture the reading culture in the future.
