The “Passing the Torch” program was successfully held on August 15-16, 2023. This activity was coordinated by the International Women’s Coffee Alliance Vietnam in collaboration with Vietnam Reading Point (a grassroots volunteer network that establishes free neighborhood bookshelves across various provinces in Vietnam) to provide support to the People’s Committee of Mai Son District, the Women’s Union of Mai Son District, and the Women’s Union of Chieng Ban Commune.

The program aims to enhance awareness about the significant benefit of reading books, foster productive reading habits, and promote a long-lasting reading culture in the local community. At the same time, the program also creates a bond between the local women’s community and between mothers and school-aged children alike.

The program was organized at the cultural centers of three villages: Thay Lom 6/1 village, Ot village, and Phieng Quai Tong Chinh village. Here, activities such as sharing inspirational stories and engaging with books were organized, attracting the participation of about 400 individuals, particularly mothers and children.

IWCA Vietnam and Vietnam Reading Point will continue to collaborate in upcoming “Keeping the Flame Alive” activities, with the goal to continue developing reading culture amongst the community for years to come.
