HUMANS OF IWCA VN: MS. NGOC ANH DAO

To begin the series “Humans of IWCA Vietnam”, we would like to introduce Ms. Ngoc Anh Dao – Chairwoman of International Women’s Coffee Alliance chapter Vietnam, and President of Detech Coffee Joint Stock Company.

Many years of traveling abroad, witnessing the development of the world made Ms. Ngoc Anh appreciate the fates of Vietnamese women. From her observation, women lack opportunities to advance to higher positions such as managers or directors. The reason could be that women see different problems and offer different solutions which might appear strange to the current decision makers who are mostly men.

Ms. Ngoc Anh Dao

“In my company, many women, at least six, occupy managerial roles. Young women coming to company feel inspired that they can become managers too if they work hard.”

According to her, although Detech Coffee was aware of the lack of opportunities for women and had policies to help them such as hiring ethnic minority women as workers or visiting and empowering them to help; but she realized that acting alone was not enough.

“I realized that establishing IWCA Vietnam is important so that other companies can join hands in this matter. The impact of many can be far more greater than the sum of small impacts”.

In 2023, IWCA Vietnam has received grant from The Starbucks Foundation to organize training and workshops for “Empowerment And Skills Development For Female Coffee Growers And Baristas On Workplace Safety”. If Detech Coffee acted alone, we wouldn’t be able to see the scale of this impact. Ms. Ngoc Anh believes that many companies becoming IWCA Vietnam’s partners will help the Alliance become more and more powerful and create positive values for the community, support women farmers in ethnic minority areas and enhance their economic power and voice, as well as new business opportunities for members.
